Advt No.5/2016 : Appointment of Communications Officer (Digital)

The Bangalore Life Science Cluster, an innovative institutional model for cutting-edge scientific research and technology development in India, invites applications from suitable individuals for the position of Communications Officer- Digital.  

The Bangalore Life Science Cluster comprises of NCBS (www.ncbs.res.in), a premier centre for research and teaching in frontier areas of biology, inStem (http://instem.res.in/), an institute with a research focus on the broad area of stem cell and regenerative and CCAMP (http://www.ccamp.res.in/), created for enabling research and entrepreneurship at the Cluster and beyond. It is envisioned that synergistic associations at the Cluster will have a far greater impact on life sciences research than the sum of individual contributions from each member institution.

The Communications Officer (Digital) will be will be a member of the Communications Office at NCBS and will work to facilitate matters relating to the Cluster websites, social media channels and other digital channels for promotion of campus research. The activities of the Communications Officer (Digital) will help to help to convey the excitement of Cluster research to external scientific and other communities, via digital tools.

Key duties of the Communications Officer- Digital will include:

  • High level oversight of campus websites
  • Creating project plans for dedicated websites for specific research programs, in line with campus norms and external stakeholder requirements
  • Coordinating implementation of specific microsites, working across with campus colleagues and external professionals as needed, to the required aesthetic and technical standards
  • Content management for the news social media channels for the Cluster
  • Oversight of all officially endorsed social media channels for the Cluster (Facebook, Twitter, Youtube etc)
  • Management of specific social media campaigns for the Cluster
  • Coordinating the production of videos, podcasts and other digital content for the Cluster channels for communications purposes
  • Working across with colleagues at the RDO and the Cluster as needed

Applicants to the role should have:

  • Training in the life sciences, at least to the graduate level
  • Prior experience with social media tools for outreach purposes
  • Proven communication skills
  • Strong time-management and interpersonal skills
  • Initiative, enthusiasm and a flexible approach to work
  • The ability to analyse, summarize and communicate information
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to work in a life sciences research organization

Additional relevant experience (desirable):

  • Prior experience with web-design and graphic design
  • Mass communications training
  • Prior experience working with digital communications professionals
