Archives Description:
The Archives at the National Centre for Biological Sciences, or the Archives, is a public space for the history of contemporary biology in India http://archives.ncbs.res.in/. The Archives opened to the public with 18 collections, with a variety of primary research material – administrative records, annotated manuscripts, maps, architectural drawings, lab notes, photographs, negatives, slides, oral histories and other electronic audio/visual material. Position overview:The Head archivist is responsible for all activities in the Archives at NCBS, and in realizing the objectives of the archive.
Position Description:
The head archivist will be responsible for realizing the objectives of the Archives at NCBS. This includes the following areas of work:
1) To expand Research collections, to have an awareness for archival standards & to facilitate Inter-institute collaborations
2) To work closely with the Archive's Chair in history and culture of Science & to drive the vision for the public face and outreach activities of the archive. This should include work on multiple media, including the physical exhibition space, an online podcast, a physical/digital newsletter, and social media outreach, and lecture series
3) The position includes decision-making roles in domestic and international organizations dedicated to archives, oral histories, linked data, and demonstrated ability to present research work to peers and the public & to develop a student internship programme.
Essential Qualification: Graduate degree in a scientific field.
Experience: 10 year work experience with 5 years as archivist at a science institution and relevant experience to support the description. Relevant experience in public engagement with a track record of designing and delivering successful public events /projects. Possess excellent communication and organizational skills.
Age limit: 45 years as on 1st July 2021.
Position timeline: This current position is for three years, with annual extension.
