National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) - Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), a premier research invites eligible and interested candidates for appearing in Walk-in for the following posts on a contract basis in research facilities.
Position : Assistant Veterinarian
Age limit : 40 years as of 01.01.2024 (subject to relaxation as per GoI norms)
The appointment will be a fixed-term position initially for one (1) year and renewable annually subject to the outcome of a performance assessment. The position comes with consolidated pay based on qualification and experience, subject to institutional guidelines.
Essential :
MVSc in Veterinary pathology, minimum 1 year experience in management of SPF animal facility
Consolidated Salary: Salary will commensurate with experience and qualification.
Job Responsibilities of Assistant Veterinarian:
- Reports to, and under the supervision of, the Campus Veterinarian.
- Ensure that the clinical and preventive health programs developed by the Campus Veterinarian/Director ACF be implemented throughout the Animal Care Facility.
- Day-to-day management of animal caretaker staff
- Day-to-day health monitoring of all mice and rats on campus and conducting necropsy as necessary. Weekly report sent to ACRC Management Team and uploaded onto intranet for inspection by users.
- Ensure that ACRC SOPs are implemented and respected by Users, Visitors and Staff.
- Manage, coordinate and supervise the individual job duties of a team of animal facility assistants, Kannada speaking animal care takers and animal facility housekeeping staff.
- Organizing weekly staff meetings and scheduling weekly / monthly staff responsibilities and job programs.
- Train the new students/animal users/animal care takers/support staff in proper care and humane handling of laboratory animals.
- Timely response to user enquiries and provide user support.
- Train research staff in aseptic and humane methods of performing surgery and restraining animals, as well as in proper pre and post-operative care of animals.
- Oversee husbandry programs, assist users in their animal related procedures like sample collection, excision of tumors, injections, methods of animal identification, minor surgeries, euthanasia of animals, SPF health monitoring procedures, etc.
- Assist Chief Veterinarian in the process of import and export of live laboratory animals, quarterly animal health monitoring programs (in SPF animal colonies), organizing animal ethics committee meetings and record keeping as per CPCSEA guidelines (GOI).
- Assist Chief Veterinarian in Organizing and Managing animal handling & restraining and animal surgery training programs for external users.
- Available for emergency veterinary care after work hours, on weekends, and on holidays.
