The Bangalore Life Science Cluster (BLiSC) is a pioneering initiative established in 2010 through a Memorandum of Understanding between the Department of Atomic Energy and the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. BLiSC was created with a visionary goal to foster collaboration and synergy among premier institutions dedicated to life sciences research. Since its inception, BLiSC has grown to encompass four distinguished institutions – NCBS, DBT-InStem, C-CAMP and TIGS.

BLiSC is looking to appoint a Campus Wellness Officer on fixed term basis. As institutions committed to excellence in fundamental and applied research, but as much to building future leaders in the biological sciences, both take mental health and campus wellness as critically important to research culture. Position: Campus Wellness Officer

No. of Post: 1 No

Age limit: Maximum 45 years as of 01.07.2024 (subject to relaxation as per GoI norms)

The appointment will be a fixed-term position initially for one (1) year and renewable annually subject to the outcome of a performance assessment. The position comes with consolidated pay based on qualification and experience, subject to institutional guidelines.

Education Qualification: Ph.D/M.Phil/Post Graduate Diploma in the fields of Psychology (Counselling, Clinical Psychology) with at least two years of relevant clinical, experience.

Job Description

  1. Awareness of the mental health act and interface with academic office: The selected candidate will be an official liason students and the academic office, clearly articulating student needs in the context of mental health to the academic office, and vice versa.
  2. Setting up support networks: The selected candidate will help establish grassroot networks that provide support for personnel. These can be informal (connections amongst batches, amongst those of similar interests, seeding groups with common issues etc.); semi-formal (Peer Connect phone line) or formal (coordinating with Parivarthan and their counselling service - Parivarthan is one of the few mental health organisations in the country that has secured an organisational membership (Membership No. 129337) with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
  3. Training Programmes
    Establishing training for volunteers to be Peer Connectors.
  4. Awareness
    This is to provide opportunities to different segments of campus to understand some of the issues surrounding some of the issues that many grapple with (identity, mental health, diversity, empowerment).
  5. Maintaining student confidence and reporting to the academic office if students are in need of more time or other academic relaxation. Sincere and timely reporting to Dean Academics.
  6. Attend emergency cases in this Institute beyond the working hours and also to advise the Campus Medical Services Committee as and when required.
  7. Work closely with the academic office and the respective academic deans/heads of NCBS and inStem to build the campus health programs.

Required:

  1. Have training in counselling technique and/or any therapeutic module.
  2. Familiarity with the mental health act
  3. Experience in psychotherapy of students of residential Institutes of higher learning.
  4. Administrative experience in managing relevant counseling services set-ups.

Consolidated Salary: Salary will commensurate with experience and qualification.
