National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) - Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), is a premier research institute engaged in research in life sciences across scale. Several research facilities and associated infrastructure helps in providing cutting edge technology and support research. Several of these facilities not only provide support to the researchers within the institute, but also academia and industry nationally and internationally.

NCBS invites applications from suitable individuals for the position of Program Manager, Outreach and Science Communication (Public Health Surveillance) as part of an ongoing pathogen surveillance program at the Bangalore Life Sciences Cluster (BLiSC).  https://data.ccmb.res.in/apsi/.

Position: Program Manager, Outreach and Science Communication (Public Health Surveillance) on fixed term basis

Number of vacancies: 1 position

Age limit: 45 years as of 01.07.2024

Salary:  Maximum of Rs.1,00,600/- per month (consolidated salary)

Essential Qualification:

(i) Doctoral Degree in Science / Engineering / Technology/ Pharma/ MD/ MS

OR Master’s Degree in Natural Sciences or Engineering or Technology (plus at least four years’ work experience) from a recognized university or equivalent, in R&D in industrial or academic Institutions or Science and Technology organizations and scientific activities and services

AND

(ii) At least one year of outreach / science communication / policy advocacy / website creation or management experience.

Additional requirements:

Proven ability to interact with multiple research groups, co-ordinate large project activities and lead sci-comm activities and programs and content creation.

Fluency in scientific writing, long form and technical writing as well as making content for general public and various stakeholders including via imagery, artwork and infographics.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and working with diverse network of stakeholders.

Ability to work independently and also as part of a team, with organizational skills that enable completing work within a given timeline.

Knowledge or practical experience in infectious diseases/public health projects, wastewater and microbial genomics or metagenomics or data visualization for technical outreach will be considered favorably.

Job Responsibilities:

The outreach manager will work closely with the program lead and teams across all institutions that are a part of this program (https://data.ccmb.res.in/apsi/) to undertake the following tasks:

1. Engage with researchers to consolidate data for dissemination to stakeholders via flyers and brochures, writing and editing blogs and technical articles.

2. Work closely with the program lead and developers to expand and improve APSI’s public-facing website and internal data sharing dashboards.

3. Create content showcasing the program and highlighting its successes and develop an international and national online presence for the project.

4. Help prepare policy documents and narrative reports, and contact various stakeholders such as government officials and policymakers for conducting stakeholder meetings. Work with the government and stakeholders for policy advocacy and program implementation.

5. Coordinate activities among various outreach and advocacy verticals across clusters, and liaise with diverse teams involved in technical implementation to understand outreach and information dissemination needs and potential.

The appointment will be a fixed-term position initially for one (1) year and renewable annually subject to the outcome of a performance assessment. The position comes with consolidated pay based on qualification and experience, subject to institutional guidelines.
