Advt No.6/2021 : Appintment of a Program Manager Digital Initiatives, IndiaBioscience program on Contract Basis

IndiaBioscience is a program based out of the National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), Bangalore that aims to catalyse the growth of biology within India, and to this end, we work with academics, government, industry and the not-for-profit sector. The major funding of the program is from the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India. As part of the DBT funded program, IndiaBioscience is looking to appoint eligible personnel to the position advertised on contractual terms. The appointment will be initially for a period of one (1) year that may be extended up to three (3) years depending on the performance of the selected candidate. Selected candidates shall be offered a consolidated pay as specified under ‘Salary’ herein below.

Major activities at IndiaBioscience include running the IndiaBioscience website through the science and education communication programs, continually updating with the latest news and opinions on life sciences scenario in India, building a database of people and organizations, organizing Young Investigators’ Meetings (YIMs) and Regional Young Investigators’ Meetings, networking meetings with Indian or International organizations, workshops on skill-building, gender parity, promoting Indian life science in various platforms all over the world, etc.

Role Summary

Operating under the broad guidance of the Executive Director, the Program Manager – Digital Initiatives will be responsible for all technical aspects related to the IndiaBioscience website and digital initiatives. The IndiaBioscience website is a one-stop online portal for showcasing research in the Life Sciences in India. It has also been a nodal point for collecting and communicating resources for funding, mentoring, networking and careers in science. IndiaBioscience operates largely through a web presence and a key part of this job profile includes the maintenance of the website, promoting and increasing the growth of the overall network across India and abroad, via digital means. The role would also require the person to take complete ownership of all the digital initiatives including the maintenance of the website (except for content generation) at IndiaBioscience.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Program Manager Digital Initiatives will liaise  with website developer(s) to discuss, analyze, or resolve usability issues; For additional features and up-gradation of the website; for maintenance of current and upcoming websites, web portals and web services

  • Program Manager Digital Initiatives will be involved in the website administration tasks as keeping track and record of website updates, software licenses and payments to all web services providers, etc

  • Program Manager Digital Initiatives will monitor security and, track, compile, and analyze website usage/ traffic data and provide data as and when required.

  • Program Manager Digital Initiatives will document application and website changes or change procedures; Database management and hosting.

  • Program Manager Digital Initiatives will develop or document style guidelines for website content and implement procedures for any website revision task.

  • Program Manager Digital Initiatives will ensure that all IBS data is backed up on the server and create a reference sheet for anyone interested in accessing this data or adding to it.

  • Program Manager Digital Initiatives will be responsible for all the digital initiatives including IndiaBiostreams (webinars), IndiaBiospeaks (podcasts), videos and other online skill-building workshops/initiatives at IndiaBioscience or in partnership with external agencies.

  • Program Manager Digital Initiatives will be responsible for the growth of IndiaBioscience's digital footprint via new avenues/platforms

  • Program Manager Digital Initiatives should have familiarity to use a wide range of social media communication platforms for outreach and networking

  • Program Manager Digital Initiatives will actively participate in all IndiaBioscience activities, and be involved in improvement initiatives

Qualification:

PhD degree in sciences or Master’s Degree in Engineering and Technology from a recognised university or equivalent

Desired Experience:

Experience in digital communication (such as podcasts, webinars, videos/film, etc) and website management will be preferred. The role requires the person to have the technical prowess to keep up to date and utilise the latest modes of digital communication.

Personal characteristics: Adaptability, flexibility, effective communication skills, creativity/innovation, ability to foster teamwork, good organizational skills and ability to multitask. Preference will be given to candidates with a PhD in sciences.

Salary: Remuneration will be equivalent to Project Scientist I as per DST OM No. SR/S9/Z-05/2019 dated 10th July 2020.
