The National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS) - Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) is a premier research centre carrying out frontier research in the biological sciences located in Bangalore, looking for appointment of a Indo-Africa Program, Coordinator –Public health network on contract basis.

Job Description:

Would you like to help us connect interested patients and members of the public with researchers in working at the interface of biology, medicine and public health policies? We are looking for a Public Health Network Coordinator (1 year role, with potential extension for 6 months up to December 2020) to join the Indo-Africa Dengue Program at NCBS.

The position is a communications-heavy public-facing role, involving working closely with members of our campus and other collaborators and  colleagues across the country to promote the role of public health  interventions, and further opportunities for people to get involved in research. The candidate will be responsible for communicating with campus members, organising engagement events and facilitating their involvement in local research projects by working with researchers to deliver focus/discussion groups and arranging review of research related materials.

The candidate will also be responsible for inspiring, training and facilitating the Centre’s researchers and support staff to reach out to key audiences, as we seek to inform them about our work, consult with them over its direction and collaborate with them on exciting new  research. The role will provide opportunities to work with researchers to develop innovative and inspiring approaches to public engagement, which reach a wide range of participants and reflect contemporary and exciting questions in ethics and humanities. For instance, within the next six to seven months, there is an opportunity to shape a seminar with a multi-dimensional perspective to public health. This would include a mix of practitioners, journalists, historians, sociologists,  policy experts, students, and field researchers.

In addition, the coordinator will allocate roughly 20 percent of their  time toward communication activities for the Archives at NCBS  (http://archives.ncbs.res.in/). This can include building awareness around historical context in public health.

Essential Qualification:

Applicants should have a Masters Degree or equivalent. Relevant experience in public engagement with a track record of designing and delivering successful public events /projects. Possess excellent communication and organizational skills.

Desirable Qualification: Experience using digital media (blogs, podcasts etc.)
