Career day- when and where?
It's on 25th of July, at NCBS.
What does alternative career/ non-academic career mean?
It means career alternatives that do not involve a career in research in an academic institution. It means pursuing careers related to science in other spheres of life such as in Industry, Education, Science Policy, Science communications, etc.
Why do I care about non-academic (non-traditional) careers? Why attend career day?
Job opportunities in academic research are rare and extremely competitive and we wish you good luck if you are on that path already and close to realising your dream. But not everyone is cut out for this. Moreover not everyone wants to have a lab of their own. What we lack currently in our respective research environments is an awareness for the many non-traditional career choices available out there. Thus the career day is designed to spread that knowledge and let you know that you may still be able to contribute to progress in science in several other ways.
The career day will provide you an opportunity to hear from and talk to leaders from the alternate career paths. The day’s schedule is designed to allow informal interactions and not just one-way lectures!
What should be my eligibility for the careers offered/discussed at the Career day?
If you are interested in pursuing a career in science which is non-traditional (i.e. not in academia) then you are eligible!
How do I register?
Go to the Registration tab in this website.
Are you charging any fee from the students to attend the career day?
Yes, we are. You have to pay INR 200.
Why am I paying INR 200 to attend career day?
We are charging a very nominal fee just to ensure participation. It is very difficult to estimate the turn-out otherwise. Also we have limited seating at the venue and those who register can be given preference.
How do I pay?
Payment details have been sent to pre-registered participants.
How do I reach NCBS?
NCBS is located at UAS-GKVK campus. You can reach GKVK and follow the signs that lead to NCBS. Alternatively, there are free shuttle services running from IIsc campus to our campus. The schedule of which can be found in our home webpage http://ncbs.res.in/useful/shuttle_trips.
