Anusree A.S. (PhD student)

I study the Late Quaternary paleoecology of semi-arid regions in Peninsular India and Banni grasslands in Gujarat. Understanding the role of various drivers of ecosystem changes over several millennia is important in the context of present day scenarios of changing climatic, edaphic, grazing and fire regimes, to all of which these systems are sensitive. This is done based on the reconstruction of past vegetation, climate and fire events through studies of multiple proxies such as pollen, stable isotopes, charcoal etc. from sedimentary archives  after determining age of the sediment. Such an understanding will allow us to better understand the potential biological consequences of on-going global change, thereby contributing to future management plans for the ecosystem.
