Biosafety Level-3 Laboratory (BSL-3):

The BSL-3 facility at BLiSc campus is designed by experts with appropriate Biosafety guidelines to undergo research experiments on known risk group-3 (RG-3) infectious agents. According to RCGM guidelines, considerations on physical primary and & secondary barriers, and recommended operational procedures are followed to protect laboratory personnel and environment from the exposure to infectious aerosols.

Our BSL3 suites have two independent workspaces (LAB-1 and LAB-2). LAB-1 is dedicated for the experiments involving Mycobacterium tuberculosis  whereas LAB-2 is reserved for use with other viral risk group-3 infectious agents. In addition, a small partition is also available in LAB-1 for in vivo experiments (ABSL-3) involving Mycobacterium tuberculosis alone.

To be an authorized user of BSL-3 facility, research scholars are given a theoretical orientation, practical demonstration on safe work practices and monitored for initial experiments before providing usership. Any research experiments to be performed in BSL-3 facility require prior approvals from IBSC (Institutional Biosafety Committee) , IAEC (Institutional Animal Ethics Committee) (for in vivo experiments), IHEC (Institutional Human Ethics Committee) (for experiments involves clinical specimens).

NOTE:

  • Valid IBSC/IAEC/HEC approval is essential along with application form; Incomplete applications, and applications without the valid IBSC / IAEC / IHEC aapprovals cannot be considered.
